Art Therapy?
Art Therapy is a form of mental health treatment alternative to traditional talk therapy. Art therapy can serve individuals of all ages through active art-making, creative process, and applied psychological theory within a safe therapeutic relationship. Anyone can participate in art therapy as no artistic skill is required.
What is
Art Communicates
Oftentimes, when describing something difficult, words are hard to find or aren’t expressive enough. Art in itself can tell a story or convey a message however researchers have also shown that creating art activates more parts of the brain than talking alone. This increase of brain activity can improve communication.
Art Heals
Creating art has been proven to reduce anxiety and distress and increase hope and resilience. Art can be used as a coping skill but also as a medium through which healing and processing of life challenges can occur. Art Therapists assist in facilitating these healing aspects of art and fostering insight.
Art Provides Hope
Art can be shared with others but more importantly, art honors its creator. Giving yourself permission to create increases your overall well-being and outlook on life. Art making is for those who are willing to step out of their comfort zone and seek greater balance, freedom, confidence, and love of their life.
